Travel

I would find the European trip the most interesting because in high school a friend and I wanted to go travel around Europe together. It would be really cool to go anywhere really. I would have to make a giant check list of clothes, passports, some how get the funds to do so either saving money or some type of financial aid, and any thing else.

Smile

Smiling, I tend not to smile often. It is a chore to smile for me most of the time so lately I make myself smile when I walk past someone. So truly I need to just continue to smile more often. I need to just work on smiling in general.

Intriguing Fact

What I found most intriguing was that people are just as likely to win the lottery then make it to 100yrs old. the percentage of people that make it to 100 yrs is 1%. Even with today's cleaner water, improvements in the medical field, and more knowledge on health; reaching 100yrs is still rare. You would think with all these improvements over the years reaching 100yrs would be easy.

My Pride Shrine

What would I put in my pride shrine?

I would put a lot of family pictures the entire family not just my direct family. I would put my Colin Helmers wrestling trophy in it, because wrestling is a big part of my life and Colin was a friend of mine that died when he was in 6th grade and I was in 5th. I would also put my yellow wrestling shoes in there to show all the work I did. Other things I would put in there would be Iowa Hawkeye stuff, hunting, and fishing items.

And that is what I would put in my pride shrine.

What I would change in my home town.

One thing I would change about Estherville is its appearance. There are some places in Estherville that are unappealing. These places create a negative image on the town because some are right on the main road so everyone who drives through sees it. Some buildings need to be removed and others just improved. I believe just the slightest improvements could help out not much but a little.

Top Priorities

1. School- I focus a lot of time towards school by going to class and doing my homework.

2. Family- I find time to connect and talk with my family everyday.

3. Practice- I do something to better my self everyday in wrestling like lifting, running, or just practice.

4. Alone Time- I need time in the day just to be by myself and relax.

5. Friends- Without friends life would be boring.

Call to Joy

I am a relatively happy person. I avoid bad situation that will get me down or not let bad situations affect me like the old saying "you just got to keep on keeping on." A way I could improve is showing my happiness because I usually don't show my emotions good or bad.

What I want to remember from Immaculée Ilibagiza in 10yrs.

I want to remember the steps it takes to truly forgive. That true forgiveness is a journey and that journey will protect you from the evils of vengeance and revenge.

Postive Thiinking

In Left to Tell Immaculée Ilibagiza used positive thinking to get her through the genocide. How could someone think positive in a situation like that, where everyone around her was being brutally murdered. That is why I think positive thinking had the biggest impact on me. Yes, I could think more positively in my life because I am not in situation as negative as a genocide like Immaculée Ilibagiza, so if she can do it in such a bad situation I can in my everyday situation.

How Do You Measure Happiness?

Sonja Lyubomirsky: "We let people define happiness for themselves. There's no happiness thermometer. No one else can tell you how happy you are. It;s a subjective phenomenon. No one but you knows, or should tell you, how happy you truly are."

People can't tell you that your happy, because sometimes they don't know what makes you happy. For me wrestling makes me happy, just wrestling. Sure winning makes me happy too but its just icing on the cake. What really makes me the happiest is wrestling with my friends during open mat. There is no pressure to win or any one watching it's just for fun. Most people don't know that about me they think I wrestle just because I'm good but that is not the case. I wasn't good at wrestling until about 6th or 7th grade but i loved the sport and it made me happy so I kept with it. Now I am wrestling in college and placed 7th at state my senior year of high school just because wrestling makes me happy.

People can't tell you when to be happy or how to become happy you have to find it for yourself.

Estherville, Iowa

Estherville is an average sized town in Iowa. (Being in Iowa average sized town means small to most places) Estherville is a sports involved community giving support to all sports at all levels. For the most part everyone knows or recognizes everyone else because it is a close community. Yeah a lot of people want to leave right out off high school who doesn't but truly most wouldn't mind if they stayed or even never left. Estherville is a great place even though I am bias I truly think Estherville is ok. Because of all that i think the people in Estherville would say for most part that their happiness scale is around a 6,7, or 8 depending on the day. (using a scale 1-10 with 10 being the happiest)

Procrastination

My favorite procrastination activity is watching TV/movies. It is easy just to turn on the TV and watch a movie or a show. Watching a show or a movie also can burn up a lot of time and makes procrastinating easy and dangerous.

My Goal

I would like to go to the D1 Wrestling National Tournament.

Three people that could support/help my with this goal would be my my uncle Ralph, my uncle Don, and my brother Chase. They would support/help me by encouraging me to save money for tickets and travel fees and probably would even join me.

Your Money or Your Life

I am currently not spending much money on anything. I have currently only bought things I have needed like books for classes and class materials. But in one way I could cut my spending is by drinking water and not pop, and this is the only strategy I can currently use to stop unnecessary spending.

Hello everyone my name is Gable Bonner and this blog is for my Seminar class at BVU.

-Things About Me

Like I said my name is Gable Bonner and I live in the small town of Estherville, IA. Estherville is 20 minutes away from Spirit Lake, Okoboji, or Iowa Great Lakes and is  ruffly six miles from the Minnesota border. In high school I was as four sport athlete participating in football, wrestling, track, and baseball. I qualified for state in wrestling my junior and senior years placing 7th as a senior. I also qualified for state in track in shot put as a senior placing 16th. Along with playing sports I co created and CEO of Team Polarizer. Team Polarizer is a wrestling club we started in Estherville so that people have a chance to wrestle all year around and to promote the sport of wrestling.
